Kristine Brockmann owns Beach Cottage Studio. Kristine is also Petite Bookstore’s “Art Director”. She sells her artwork all over the world and has a bevy of fans. I am very, very lucky to be able to call her my friend. How she puts up with me... I have no idea. But, I know I would be completely lost without her!

She has done work for the likes of Midori. She is listed on their blog as “links that they love” and they only have 14!

She was featured in the newest issue of Somerset Life.
She will have over 1,000 people who have “hearted” her store in Etsy, by the time I publish this blog and her store is a little over a year old. She ships her art all over the world. She is what Etsy is all about. Even Etsy knows that, because she has been on the front page of Etsy’s “hand picked items” so many times, I have lost count.
Recently, I sat down to read a British decorating magazine and there was Kristine’s artwork under someone else’s name. Someone had bought her artwork, framed it and then put their name on it. I just about fell out of my chair. I could not believe my eyes. It was just a small picture, but there it was and she wanted 1,100 pounds for it. That’s like $2,750!

I called Kristine and said you’re not going to believe this. But all she said was "what are you going to do?". Which got me to thinking... what does an artist do when someone takes their idea or part of their artwork to make it their own? Do we see international magazines? How do we know what is going on with our artwork once it leave the States? They must have felt quite safe in not being discovered in England. How does an artist safeguard their work internationally?

I'm not sure how you safeguard your work, especially once it leaves the states.

Hi Tedi. Your friends art is beautiful. I saw her recent feature in Somerset Life. I am sorry she had her work taken like that. I am afraid its not just a problem with international either. And I am even more afraid she is right."what are you going to do" Its very sad. I hope it gets taken care of and always remember "karma is gonna get ya" . Have a sweet week! hugs, gail

I guess the best way to safe guard our work is to have wonderful friends like you Tedi. You may feel lucky to have Kristine as a friend but she is VERY lucky to have you watching out for her *smiles*

Beautiful artwork. She deserves to be so well published! How sad someone had to call her work their own.

I keep reading about this happening more and more. People are so ridiculous and pathetic that they can't come up with their own ideas! Copyright girls! Copyright everything and then sew the pants of the losers that steal!
